World Day of Telecommunications and Information Society

On May 17 the anniversary of the signing in 1865 the first International telegraph convention and creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is celebrate. Since 1973 this event is celebrated as World Telecommunications Day. The results of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in 2005 and Plenipotentiary Conference ITU (2006) , May 17 was declared as a World Day of Telecommunications and Information Society.

At its session in 2009, the Council approved for the ITU World Telecommunications Day and the Information Society in 2010 the topic "Better City, Better Life ICT”.
