Computer Graphics was the first general engineering discipline to be taught at Linyi University to Chinese students

January 8, 2025
At the end of last year, Andrii Nesvidomin, associate professor of descriptive geometry, computer graphics and design, returned from Linyi (China). It is worth noting that he was the first from the engineering discipline to be assigned to teach computer graphics to Chinese students for two months.
Engineering and computer graphics are an integral part of the training of modern specialists in technical fields. Mastering these disciplines allows students not only to visualize technical ideas, but also to develop full-fledged projects, work with CAD programs, and create 3D models for various engineering solutions. This forms the foundation for effective design, analysis, and technical communication.

Knowledge of computer graphics opens up wide opportunities for students in the future: from working in mechanical engineering, architecture, and robotics to creating innovative technology startups.

The experience of leading countries such as China shows that an integrated approach to teaching engineering graphics is a key success factor. Chinese universities pay great attention to practical skills in working with modern software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) and integrating graphic disciplines into interdisciplinary courses. This approach contributes to the formation of competitive specialists ready to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0.

Studying engineering and computer graphics is a step towards a high-quality technical education that meets international standards and the needs of the future labor market.
Graphic training is a necessary component of the training of engineering specialists. Not so long ago, it was one of the compulsory subjects to study at school. Unfortunately, the situation regarding the study of this subject has not changed for the better both at school and in higher education institutions (including the NULES of Ukraine). Despite numerous attempts by the community of lecturers and scholars to prevent the reduction of hours for teaching graphic arts, populism prevails, and the reduction, and sometimes even the abandonment of the discipline, does occur. This trend is typical for many educational institutions in Ukraine.

The importance of graphic training, in particular, is extremely important for filing applications for inventions. Drawings allow you to accurately convey the essence of the invention. This ensures a better understanding of the technical aspects of the invention by patent officers. Graphical representations are a universal language that is understandable to specialists from different industries and countries. This facilitates international patent filing. High-quality graphics add professionalism to an invention application, which can increase the chances of successful patenting.
Graphical representations help to understand complex technical aspects that cannot be described in text alone.

The rapid development of computer technology has affected the activities of all departments.
The Department of Descriptive Geometry, Computer Graphics, and Design is one of the departments most affected by the changes in teaching their disciplines. If earlier, for tens or even hundreds of years, the tools used to create images of engineering graphics were a pencil, ruler, eraser, and compass, now the situation has changed radically and is changing further. In a short period of time, two generations of plotters (pencil and inkjet) have changed, and nowadays they are practically unnecessary due to the transition to paperless technologies.

The same applies to the execution of drawings using computer technology. Many computer graphics systems have appeared. At first, there was 2-D graphics (images on a plane), then 3-D graphics (images in space), then solid-state modeling, and virtual reality technologies.
And this is not the limit.
Technologies go on evolving rapidly.
And one needs to feel the direction of this development in order not to be left behind forever.
