International webinar «Qualification profiles of specialists for energy supply of modern buildings» within the framework of the LIFE22-CET project «New Skills for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings»

January 1, 2025
Recently, the Research Institute of Energy, Automation and Energy Saving of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine hosted an international webinar that brought together leading experts in the field of energy efficiency and energy supply of modern buildings. The event was attended by representatives of: Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, Bulgarian Association of Installers, Association of Energy Auditors of Ukraine, International Agency of Professional Qualifications, NZEB Hub of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, etc.

The event has become an important platform for discussing innovative approaches to energy supply, current issues of legislative regulation, economic aspects, and training for almost zero energy buildings (NZEB). The participants of the event discussed legislative aspects, technical standards, cost-effectiveness, and training for work in the field of NZEB.

The webinar moderator, Head of the Department of Energy Systems Engineering, expert of the international LIFE-CET project «New Skills for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings» Yevhen Antypov gave an introduction to the project manager from NULES of Ukraine Svitlana Makarevych. In her opening remarks, the speaker emphasized the importance and need for training and retraining of specialists in the use of smart photo-electric, thermal, and hydrogen systems in buildings at all levels of design, operation, and maintenance, as well as the development of certification schemes and a non-formal education platform in a consortium of project participants.
The report, accompanied by the presentation material, was presented by Artur Obidnyk, Head of the Department of Methodological Support and Regulation of Energy Efficiency at the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine. The participant focused on the key aspects of legal regulation of energy audits in Ukraine.
Vadym Lytvyn, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Energy Auditors of Ukraine, spoke about the analysis of budget savings from the implementation of NZEB standards, namely the economic benefits of implementing NZEB standards in the construction and reconstruction of residential and public buildings.

The qualification requirements for NZEB building certification specialists in Ukraine were highlighted by Mykhailo Sheremet, Director of the Energy Qualification Center of the International Agency for Professional Qualifications, and Yevhen Kulinko, Deputy Head of Marketing and Planning Department of NZEB Hub KNUCA, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture.

Nina Nikolova from the Association of Installers of Bulgaria shared her experience in preparing certification for electrical and heating engineers in Bulgaria. (Professional Qualification Profiles — Electrical & Heating Engineers).
New skills of specialists for buildings with almost zero energy consumption were presented by Olena Shelimanova and Svitlana Makarevych, associate professors of the Department of Energy Systems Engineering, experts of the LIFE22-CET-NS4nZEBs project working group (NULES of Ukraine). The speakers noted that in order to successfully implement modern energy efficiency standards in buildings with near-zero energy consumption, it is necessary to develop new skills that cover various aspects of construction activities, including knowledge of innovative technologies for energy efficient construction, integration of renewable energy sources, use of advanced thermal insulation materials, as well as design of energy saving and ventilation optimization systems.
Yevhen Antypov, Head of the Department of Energy Systems Engineering, project expert, summarized the methodological aspects of NZEB building certification. The certification methodology includes several main stages: evaluation of design solutions, energy audit and verification of actual energy consumption during operation.
The speaker paid special attention to the standardized thermal resistance of building structures, the importance of checking the building's airtightness, and the integration of intelligent energy management systems. It is also important to perform a life-cycle analysis of the building, which allows to take into account not only current energy consumption but also long-term environmental and economic benefits.

The webinar resulted in a number of recommendations that will be sent to the relevant ministry and other agencies to amend the regulations and educational programs of qualification centers, which will help to develop appropriate skills in the training and certification of NZEB building certification.
The webinar has become an important platform for the exchange of experience between Ukrainian and international experts, specialists, teachers, masters and graduate students, contributing to the professional development of specialists and the implementation of modern standards in the construction industry.
