Maria Kucheruk - participant of the XX International Congress on Animal Hygiene - ISAH 2022

October 27, 2022

With the assistance of the administration of the NULES of Ukraine and the support of the German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture, the trip of Maria Kucheruk, the head of the Department of Veterinary Hygiene named after Professor A.K. Skorokhodko, to Berlin (Germany) to take part in the XX International Congress on Animal Hygiene, became possible.

Dr. Kucheruk had a great opportunity to meet her colleagues from other institutions and to discuss options for future cooperation before the event.
The Сongress began on October 5, 2022 with a speech by Dr. Jörg Hartung, President of ISAH, who held the opening ceremony of the congress, shared the history of the establishment of the International Society for Animal Hygiene (ISAH) and the contributions of its previous presidents.

Within the framework of the Congress, Sectional meetings devoted to infectious diseases of pigs and their prevention, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) within the framework of the One Health concept, challenges of poultry production, animal welfare, as well as features of reliable disinfection and the use of probiotics in animal husbandry, were held. In addition, Congress participants had the opportunity to present their work in the form of posters or oral presentations. Elections were held during the General Assembly of ISAH.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Maria Kucheruk, in turn, presented to ISAH president Dr. Hartung a monograph on the history of the establishment and development of the Department of Veterinary Hygiene named after professor A.K. Skorokhodko, prepared for the department's 100th anniversary.

Members of the Society of Animal Hygiene sincerely welcomed Maria at the meeting, expressing their regret and sympathy for the war in Ukraine, condemning Russian aggression. Moreover, Jörg Hartung together with his wife Gabrielle Hartung expressed special support and sympathy on this occasion. The couple sent their creative works, which were prompted by the war in Ukraine. Gabrielle recently held an exhibition of her paintings in Germany, among which there were ones dedicated to the painful tragedies of Ukraine. Dr. Jörg Hartung submitted two of his poems written under the influence of the horrors and crimes of war, for publication.

Mariupol
Inmitten der Menge ist Schweigen,
im Strome der Leiber liegt Ruh‘.
Inmitten der Toten ein Reigen,
die Köpfe, sie nicken mir zu.
Damitten vom Lärme zerrissen,
die Menge kreischend entzweit.
Darinnen die Seelen verderben,
Gesichter vom Blitze gebleicht.
Inmitten der Nacht des Verderbens,
wir treiben schweigend im Strom.
Damitten im Beben der Erde,
aus Gräbern, sie winken mir zu.
Die Hände, sie weisen zum Herzen,
blutrot der Morgen anbricht.
Sie flehen um Hilfe und Segen,
um Hoffnung, Vergebung und Licht.
J. Hartung

Krieg
Aufschlag.

Was vorher stand, liegt wirr danieder.
Vergib uns Herr, was wir getan.
J. Hartung

Maria Kucheruk expresses her sincere gratitude to the Hartung couple, the scientific community and colleagues for their support and sympathy for the fate of Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor.
