Science Week Took Place at the Faculty of Environment and Sustainable Development

     On November 3-7, 2014 the Science Week dedicated to the World Day of Science for Peace and Development took place at the Faculty of Environment and Sustainable Development. It began with a scientific and practical seminar “Modern Trends of Environmental Research: Problems and Prospects”, which was attended by the teachers and scientists of the Department of Agrosphere Ecology and Environmental Control and students of the 2nd-4th years of study of the faculty. Topics under consideration included current issues of joint research in the field of ecology and environmental protection, innovation in research, use of innovative approaches to environmental research etc.

      

    November 4 is the Day of Self-Government at the faculty. Therefore, the duties of the Dean were performed by a 3rd-year student, Kateryna Shyshanova, the duties of the Vice Dean for Educational and Practical Activities were performed by a master student, Olena Epelboym, while the duties of the Vice Dean for Cultural and Educational Work were performed by a 3rd-year student, Yana Buryak. Heads of the departments were 4th-year students Viktor Mayorko, Dmytro Monoshyn and others.

     On the same day the teams of the ERI of Plant Science, Environment and Biotechnology played in brain ring. The winners were the students of the Faculty of Environment and Sustainable Development, who showed high intellectual capacity, ingenuity, resourcefulness and professionalism — Sergiy Gayevyy, Olena Epelboym, Anastasia Skokova, Anna Sytyuk, Vladyslav Dudar.

     A significant event of the Science Week was a scientific and practical workshop “Ukrainian Reserves. Monitoring violations of reserve mode”. It was held by the outstanding leaders in monitoring of natural reserve mode of Ukraine, coordinator of Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Centre, Ivan Parnikoza, commander of the retinue-guard brigade “Bison”, Pavlo Shvydun, volunteer of Kyiv Ecological and Naturalist Centre, Anton Palamarchuk. The participants of the workshop discussed burning issues of monitoring of protected areas, violation of their regime, problems of reserves and their solution, program for the development of Ukrainian nature reserves etc.

      

     On November 6 a charity auction “Let Us Help Together” dedicated to the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts took place. All groups of students of the Faculty of Environment and Sustainable Development participated in the auction. They prepared delicious meals and hand-made souvenirs. The auction also included a win-win lottery.

     

     

     The final event in the Science Week was the ecological quest “For life in the clean environment” held on November 7 between 1st-year students. The winner was the team of Group 3 “SUPER — TRIO” consisting of Tetyana Lazareva, Alina Semko, Sergiy Rybak. The 2nd place belongs to the team “DRAGON” (Andriy Andrusenko, Ivan Volkogon, Yana Sedlyar, Daria Kovaleva), while the 3rd place was won by the team “SUN” (Veronika Stepanyuk, Dmytro Metelytsya, Mykola Nakonechnyy, Varvara Moshynska). Regardless of the result, all participants showed high athletic abilities, persistence and determination.
