Valeriia Yustyniuk, Assistant of the Department of Veterinary Hygiene named after Prof. A.K.Skorohodko continues her internship at the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, which began in January 2022.
The Center for Animal Health and Food Safety plays a key role in protecting humans from zoonoses and foodborne diseases by actively engaging in outreach and research that brings together local and global experts. The result of close interdisciplinary cooperation is the development of solutions to common problems in veterinary medicine and human health care.
During her internship, Valeriia actively works on current projects of the center, and also participates in educational and scientific events, improving her practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
One of the tasks that Valeriia works on is monitoring infectious diseases of pigs in the world and determining the risks of introducing pathogens to the territory of the United States. For this purpose, available tools and sources of information are used, as well as close cooperation with local experts.
An important component of an internship is practical training. Having practical skills is especially important in the case of responding to outbreaks of dangerous diseases, when it is necessary to act quickly, according to the plan, observing all safety measures. Having joined the training organized by the Minnesota State Office of the US Department of Agriculture, Valeria Yustiniuk learned the skills of working in the field during the response to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
In addition to mastering professional skills, the internship provides an opportunity to attend educational events and develop teaching potential, mastering modern teaching methods and techniques. After all, it is extremely important for a teacher not only to be a professional in his field, but also to be able to interest and convey the necessary information to the student and to convey his experience to him.
In addition to scientific and practical activities, Valeriya actively participates in social events, the purpose of which is to highlight events in Ukraine and express support for Ukrainians.
Thus, Valeriya constantly participates in actions in support of Ukraine, and also joined the discussion at the round table "Local echoes of the war in Ukraine" as a speaker, where she was able to share her own story and encourage participants to join volunteer organizations and support Ukraine in the fight for its freedom.
