Department of English for Technical and Agrobilogical Specialities

Scientific work

The academic and teaching staff of the department are actively engaged in scientific research under the departmental initiative titled “Psychological and Pedagogical Mechanisms and Technologies for Developing Professional Foreign Language Competence in Students of Life Sciences Universities in the Context of Modern European Integration Processes” (State Registration Number 0123U101385).
Scientific Supervisor: Tetiana Mykolaivna Luhova (Ph.D., Associate Professor).
An analysis of the daily practice of teaching English in non-linguistic higher education institutions reveals that it is traditionally focused on the development of skills and abilities required for professional communication, mainly in an indirect form—through reading and translating professionally oriented texts. This results in the majority of graduates from non-linguistic institutions facing challenges in reading authentic literature, engaging in dialogic or monologic communication in English, and preparing business documents.
The relevance of the department’s initiative research topic is driven by identified contradictions between:
- The extent of students’ English knowledge, their level of professional English communication skills, and their insufficient ability to actively apply these skills in professional activities, social, and intercultural communication.
- The existing prerequisites for developing scientific and pedagogical resources for professional and socio-cultural English communication, and the difficulty of implementing these resources due to insufficient exploration of the lexical-semantic, pragma-linguistic, and psychological-pedagogical aspects of modern professional English communication and scientific-technical translation.
- The growing interest in translating professionally oriented texts (in the agricultural and technical fields) and the lack of specialized methodological materials.
Research objective: To represent the content, forms, methods, tools, psychological-pedagogical mechanisms, and technologies for developing professional foreign language competence in students of life sciences universities in the context of modern European integration processes.
