The department was established in 2009 as a response to the need for specialists in designing and maintaining computer networks, developing embedded systems, and cybersecurity. From the beginning, the department focused on modern IT industries, actively implementing Cisco certification programs, and later, information security courses. In 2018, the department received a new name, reflecting the expansion of its cybersecurity and computer engineering activities.

Laboratory

The department has the following laboratories:

• Cisco Computer Network Lab – Equipped with state-of-the-art routers and switches to prepare for CCNA certification
• Cyber Polygon – a platform for practical simulation of cyber incidents and infrastructure protection
• IoT laboratory – microcontrollers, sensors, robotic systems (Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
• Control Systems Security Laboratory – Smart-grid modules, SCADA simulation

Scientific activity

Scientists of the department implement projects on:

• Threat Intelligence
• Development of algorithms for detecting anomalies in network traffic
• Protection of SCADA systems
• Energy-efficient innovative systems in agriculture
• Participation in the DAAD DigitalAgroEdu project  (2023–2025)
• Participation in the development of the system "SMART FARMING USING IOT" – victory in IAM2022 (Malaysia)
  There are also student scientific circles: "Cybersecurity", "Internet of Things".

Among the department graduates are specialists in IT companies Google, Cisco, SoftServe, Uklon, NBU, and government agency heads of information security departments. Some continue their studies in master's and PhD programs in Germany, Poland, Canada, and the USA.
