Working meeting within the framework of cooperation between science and industry

As part of the implementation of economic contractual topics and the development of partnerships between higher education institutions and agribusiness, a working meeting was held between representatives of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Aquatic Bioresources of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Management of Ukraine and the management of two leading farms in southern Ukraine - the Agricultural Enterprise "Agrofirma "Myg-Service-Agro" (Director Ivanov S. S., Mykolaiv district) and the Private Enterprise "Victoria" (Director Lagodienko V. V., Bashtan district, Mykolaiv region).

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways to improve pig production technologies in the face of increased requirements for animal husbandry systems. From January 1, 2026, new legislative norms on animal welfare will come into force in Ukraine, so it is critically important for agricultural enterprises to prepare for changes and adapt production processes in accordance with modern standards.

Specialists of the National University of Life Sciences of Ukraine – Vadym Lykhach, Acting Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry Technologies, and Anna Lykhach, Professor of the Department of Applied Biology, Animal Breeding and Genetics – conducted a detailed audit of existing technological solutions on farms. The assessment was carried out taking into account the requirements of national legislation and European Union directives regarding housing conditions, veterinary and sanitary conditions, microclimate, herd management and production processes.

Based on the results of the work, extensive recommendations were prepared for improving technological schemes, increasing pig productivity, optimizing the feed base and feeding system, improving microclimate conditions and implementing elements of European practices in animal welfare management. Separately, key areas for further modernization of production and potential steps for implementing EU standards were identified, which will allow enterprises to increase efficiency and compliance with modern standards.

During the meeting, a step-by-step plan of practical measures was also developed, aimed at gradually improving production processes and biosafety systems, training personnel and updating the documentation base in accordance with the requirements of the future legislative field.

Cooperation between science and business remains a key factor in the sustainable development of the livestock industry. Combining scientific potential, practical experience and modern approaches allows agricultural enterprises to increase their competitiveness, introduce innovations and ensure high standards of animal welfare.

The Department of Livestock Technologies of the NUBiP of Ukraine will continue to expand partnerships with production structures, support the development of the industry and promote the implementation of European standards in livestock farming.
