Scientific developments of the Department of Veterinary Reproduction of the NUBiP of Ukraine - a contribution to the global transformation of world livestock farming

From 29.09 to 1.10. 2025, the Second Global Conference on Sustainable Transformation of Livestock Farming was held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) (Rome, Italy) on the theme “Stimulating Change, Scaling Innovation, Implementing Solutions”. Particular attention was paid to the important role of livestock farming in the transformation of global agri-food systems and in comprehensively addressing the challenges of improving product production, food quality, and the state and quality of the environment. The livestock sector is a source of livelihood for about 1.3 billion people around the world, and it accounts for 40% of global agricultural GDP.


ВUkraine was represented at the conference by Oleksandr Valchuk, Head of the Department of Veterinary Reproductive Medicine of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Life Sciences of Ukraine, who presented the innovative project “Cattle.Center – Digital Platform for Monitoring Animal Welfare and Reproductive Health in Cattle, Sheep, and Goat Farming”, aimed at digitalizing animal welfare and health monitoring systems, which is an important element of sustainable development of livestock farming and increasing the efficiency of farms.


The conference became a powerful international platform for the exchange of experience between FAO member states, politicians, representatives of the private sector, scientists, civil society organizations and development institutions.


The report of the Head of the Department of Veterinary Reproductive Medicine Oleksandr Valchuk at the FAO Global Conference received positive feedback and confirmed the active integration of Ukrainian science into the global scientific space and, in particular, the contribution of the National University of Life Sciences of Ukraine to the development of innovations in the field of veterinary medicine and animal husbandry.
