History

Until 2009, the Department of Processes and Equipment of Agricultural Production Processing was known as the Department of Mechanisation of Agricultural Product Processing and Storage. Pursuant to the order of the Rector of the National Agrarian University dated 6 June 1994, the specialisation ‘Mechanisation of Processing and Storage of Agricultural Products’ was established at the Faculty of Agricultural Mechanisation, and the Department of Mechanisation of Processing and Storage of Agricultural Products was created. Associate Professor Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Datsyshyn, Candidate of Technical Sciences, was appointed Head of the Department. The department was established with the aim of improving the training of engineering personnel for the processing industry and in connection with the transition of agricultural production to market relations and the need for future mechanical engineers to study machinery that ensures the high-quality processing of agricultural products, bringing them to a final competitive condition.

In order to align the names of the university’s structural units with the nature of the work carried out by these units, in accordance with Order No. 260 of 25 March 2009, the department was renamed to its current title – Processes and Equipment for the Processing of Agricultural Products. Initially, the department was part of the Educational and Scientific Technical Institute, but shortly afterwards it became an educational and scientific unit with dual reporting lines, forming part of both the Educational and Scientific Technical Institute and the Educational and Scientific Institute of Quality and Standardisation of Food and Food Technologies.

In spring 2010, the department became a structural unit of the Ukrainian Educational and Scientific Institute of Bio-Resource Quality and Life Safety. Following the optimisation of the university’s structure in 2015, the department became a unit of the Faculty of Food Technology and Quality Management of Agricultural Products (since January 2026, the faculty has been renamed the Faculty of Food Science, Nutrition and Quality Managementt).

The first head of the department was Professor Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Datsyshyn (1994–2009), an Academician of the International Academy of Higher Education, Honoured Worker of Public Education of Ukraine, recipient of the Order of Honour, Distinguished Educator of Ukraine, and Distinguished Agrarian Educator and Scientist of the First Degree.

On 25 March 2009, pursuant to Order No. 260 and following the renaming of the department, Viktor Volodymyrovych Sarana, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor, was appointed Acting Head of the Department.

From August 2009 to March 2020, the department was headed by Yurii Hryhorovych Sukhenko, a Distinguished Educator of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor.

Since March 2020, the department has been headed by Vasyl Volodymyr Pavlovych, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor.
