Zavadskyi Joseph Stanislavovych was born on May 31, 1928, in the village of Petrashivka, Vinkivtsi District, Khmelnytskyi Region. After graduating from the Hovirskyi Agricultural College in the Khmelnytskyi Region, from 1946 to 1955 he worked as an agronomist and chief agronomist of the Derazhnya district agricultural department and the Machine and Tractor Stations (MTS) of the Khmelnytskyi Region. In 1953 he graduated from the Agronomic Faculty of the Kyiv Agricultural Institute. Since 1955 he has worked at the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (now the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine). Since 1973 he has been the head of the Department of Agricultural Production Management (since 1996 – the Department of Management and Marketing).
During 1963-1966 he worked in the Mongolian People's Republic, in 1987 in Vietnam. From 1993 to 1996, he served as an economics expert for Ukraine at the international organization "Development of East-West Cooperation" (Paris, France).
In 1993, Joseph Stanislavovych Zavadskyi was awarded the honorary title "Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine". In the same year, he was elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education, and in 1994 – a full member of the International Academy of Computer Sciences and Systems.
The scientific works of Professor J. S. Zavadskyi focus on theoretical and practical aspects of management, particularly in agro-industrial enterprises; issues of management and marketing at various levels of the agro-industrial complex under market economy conditions; identification of trends in the development of managerial relations; regularities in the transformation of management functions at different levels of socio-economic systems in market environments; algorithmization of management processes; and the development of models and algorithms aimed at improving the effectiveness of managerial decision-making.
Professor J. S. Zavadskyi was among the first Ukrainian economists to conduct in-depth and comprehensive research on the theoretical and methodological foundations, challenges, and standards of management for agricultural enterprise executives, issues of centralization and decentralization in managerial operations, and the adaptation of scientific principles of modern management and marketing to the conditions of Ukraine.
Under the supervision of Zavadskyi Joseph Stanislavovych, 4 Doctors of Sciences and 36 Candidates of Sciences were trained. Today, they successfully work in various sectors of the economy in Ukraine, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Syria, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Tajikistan, and other countries.
