Modern biotechnology is a field where scientific research and practical industrial needs interact to create new technologies and solutions. The Department of Ecobiotechnology and Biodiversity at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine combines the scientific expertise of its specialists, research experience, and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. Research activities encompass plant biotechnology, cell engineering, plant physiology and biochemistry, molecular biology, DNA profiling, microbiology, and phytoviruses.
What can we offer our partners?
🌱 Plant Biotechnology and In Vitro Culture
Development and improvement of microclonal propagation technologies for cultivated, ornamental, fruit and berry, and medicinal plants; production of disease-free planting stock; preservation of valuable genetic material; and research into the possibilities of in vitro plant cultivation.
🧬 DNA Profiling and Molecular Genetic Testing
Conducting molecular biology research, genotyping, genetic profiling, and the determination of genetic polymorphism. This field can be useful for the study and identification of plants, strains of microorganisms, and other biological objects.
🔬 Plant Physiology and Biochemistry
The study of physiological and biochemical processes in plants, the characteristics of their growth and development, as well as the mechanisms of adaptation and the development of resistance to adverse factors.
🦠 Microbiology and Phytoviruses
Identification and study of plant pathogens; investigation of the interactions between microorganisms and plants; research on microorganisms with beneficial properties; and the search for promising strains for practical application.
🌿 Improving Plant Resistance
Research on biotechnological methods for enhancing plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stress factors, in particular through the use of inducer compounds and the activation of plants’ natural defense mechanisms.
🧪 Biologically Active Substances
Research on plant materials, in vitro cell and tissue cultures, as well as promising producers of biologically active substances for future practical applications.
Scientific research is conducted at the Educational and Research Laboratory of Biotechnology and Cell Engineering, which is fully equipped to support research in the fields of plant biotechnology, molecular biology, cell engineering, microbiology, plant physiology, and plant biochemistry. The laboratory facilities include equipment for molecular biology research, DNA work, and in vitro culture. The laboratory serves as a base for scientific research, master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations, and the results obtained are integrated into the educational process and students’ practical training. A separate area of focus is the collection of plants in in vitro culture, which is used for scientific research and educational purposes.
The department is open to collaboration with agricultural and biotechnology companies, crop producers, laboratories, pharmaceutical and food companies, plant breeding and seed companies, research institutions, and innovative projects.
