15 August 2024, 13:06

Over the past 10 years, the department has held 20 conferences on the topic: Development of bioenergy potential in agriculture and development of bioeconomy in Ukraine. The Bioeconomy Laboratory is actively preparing for this year's summit, which will be held for the first time outside of Europe in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, on October 23-24, 2024. GBS2024 provides a platform for a comprehensive discussion of global bioeconomy issues. It will highlight and recognize the importance of the bioeconomy in promoting sustainable development. The summit brings together bioeconomy experts and high-level representatives of politics, science, civil society and the business sector from all hemispheres. The 4th GBS will focus on sustainable bioeconomy as keys to decarbonisation and a sustainable transition to a green economy in rural and urban areas that are less dependent from fossil fuels; in creating resilient and sustainable food systems, reversing biodiversity loss, addressing health challenges and harnessing innovation as a driver of new economic opportunities, especially jobs for youth. Scientific research is aimed at solving the most important issues that were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at the meeting on August 13. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the national renewable energy action plan for the period up to 2030 and the plan of measures for its implementation. It predicts that the share of RES in gross final energy consumption in 2030 should be 27%, namely: in heating and cooling systems - 33%; in electricity production – 29%; in the transport sector - 17%. The renewable energy action plan is a supplement to the national energy and climate plan, which was approved in June. The document clearly correlates with European norms and standards. It aims to increase the share of green energy in gross final consumption to 27% by 2030. The plan envisages 38 measures, prescribes performance indicators and determines those responsible," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a government meeting. According to Ukrenergo, Ukraine needs 4 GW of new wind power plants and 3.8 GW of solar power plants. To support the construction of new RES- generation by the end of 2024. Russia destroyed 9.2 GW of electricity generation in Ukraine in May 2024, which had not occurred since February 2023 teachers, graduate students, students from various faculties and universities take part.
