International dialogue for the future of rural areas: visit of Ukrainian scientists to the Republic of Poland

During the period from 25 to 27 June 2025, representatives of the faculty of land management of NUBiP of Ukraine and the Institute of land use of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine took part in a number of scientific and partnership events during their visit to the Republic of Poland. The visit took place within the framework of the Rebuild Rural Ukraine Project, which is implemented in cooperation with the US National Academy of Sciences and the Polish Academy of Sciences, and aims to support Ukrainian research initiatives in the field of post-war rural restoration.
On June 25-26, Warsaw hosted a meeting of the Academic Council of the Institute for Rural Development and agriculture of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN) at which the Ukrainian delegation presented the results of joint developments and outlined the directions of scientific cooperation.

The delegation included: academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of economics, professor of the department of land cadaster Yosyp DOROSH; doctor of economics, professor of the department of land management Olha DOROSH; doctor of economics, professor of the department of land management Oksana SAKAL — representatives of the faculty of land management of the NUBiP of Ukraine, as well as deputy director of the Institute of land use of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine Andriy TARNOPOLSKY and Ph. D. in economics Roman DERKULSKY.
On behalf of the Ukrainian delegation, the academician Yosyp DOROSH delivered a welcoming speech. In his speech, he focused on the strategic directions of scientific and technical cooperation, identified the prospects for the post-war reconstruction of the agricultural sector of Ukraine, and also noted the key role of science in ensuring sustainable rural development.


A significant stage of the visit was the solemn greeting of the professor Monica STANNA, director of the Institute of Rural Development and Agriculture of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN), on the occasion of awarding her a diploma of a foreign member of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine.


Professor Olha DOROSH as a representative of the faculty of land management of NUBiP of Ukraine, made a report on the regulatory and legal aspects of land management. She stressed the need to combine theoretical foundations, practical mechanisms and international experience in forming an effective policy for sustainable land use.
On June 27, the Ukrainian delegation paid a working visit to the State Research Institute of soil science and crop production (IUNG-PIB) in Pulawy, where they met with leading Polish scientists and discussed joint research initiatives in the field of soil protection and rational use of agricultural landscapes.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation got acquainted with the research infrastructure, laboratory and analytical base and scientific areas of IUNG-PIB. Current projects in the field of soil science, crop production and digital monitoring were presented, as well as Ukrainian developments in spatial planning, land policy and the web resource «Land quality in Ukraine» were presented. Opportunities for joint publications and scientific cooperation were discussed.


Participants of the meeting, in particular PhD, assistant professor Vitaly KRUPIN — researcher of the department of economic modeling of the Institute of rural development and agriculture IRWiR PAN confirmed our mutual readiness for long-term cooperation and partnership development.
This visit showed the effective integration of scientific and educational potential of NUBiP of Ukraine in the international academic space and proved the high level of professional training and professionalism of Ukrainian researchers in solving global challenges of modern rural development.
