The Faculty of Land Management of NUBiP – an Active Participant in «Geoforum-2025»: Professional Expertise, Partnership Agreements, and Academic Dialogue

April 13, 2025
On April 9-11, 2025, the XXVIII International Scientific and Technical Conference «Geoforum-2025» was held in Lviv one of the most prestigious professional events for Ukrainian and international land surveyors, cartographers, scientists, engineers, business representatives and young surveyors.
Organized by the Western Geodetic Society of the Ukrainian Society of Geodesy and Cartography, the conference once again confirmed that the industry has not only withstood the difficult conditions of wartime but continues to develop confidently, integrating into global scientific and technological trends.

Among the participants, the delegation from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP) once again took an active role. The university was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Land Management Taras IEVSIUKOV; Head of the Department of Land Use Planning Andrii MARTYN; Chairman of the Faculty Employers' Council and Head of the Non-Governmental Organization «Association of Land Management Specialists of Ukraine», Anatolii POLTAVETS; as well as by students and postgraduates.

The three-day program of «Geoforum-2025» was exceptionally rich and diverse. It featured over two dozen thematic sections, seminars, and presentations dedicated to both civil and military applications of geospatial technologies, legislative developments, and prospects for the industry’s growth amid war and Ukraine’s future reconstruction. The full conference program is available at the following link: https://zgt.com.ua/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/PROGRAM_2025.pdf?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR4QY6x7lEQyyUZvbXzIVS2hKt9kKje-XQkq_RSYnrsZJ9cGdb5rn07MVFC33Q_aem_DjSb2AJaI4naNS5yhtR39A

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of state authorities, including the Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography, and Cadastre Dmytro MAKARENKO, and the Director of the Department for the Development of the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure Andriy GALAYDA, highlighting once again the significance and relevance of the event.
At the plenary session, participants discussed the current priorities for the development of land management and geodesy, focusing in particular on the tasks of restoring the country’s infrastructure in the post-war period, the challenges of spatial planning, the development of the cadastre system, and the provision of topographic and geodetic services for defense, construction, and sustainable development.

This year, Head of the Department of Land Use Planning Andrii MARTYN, delivered two reports. At the thematic seminar titled «The Procedure and Content of Advanced Training for Certified Engineers in the Industry», he outlined key problems and proposed ways to improve the system for professional certification of land management engineers and surveyors. He emphasized the importance of methodological approaches to assessing professional competencies during qualification exams and advanced training programs.
In addition, at Section No. 4, «Cadastre, Land Management, and Real Estate Valuation», he addressed the issue of cadastral registration of land use restrictions around military facilities, highlighting the legal specifics of such procedures in wartime Ukraine. In particular, he emphasized the need for transparent documentation and legally sound registration of restrictions arising from national security challenges.

Dean of the Faculty of Land Management, Taras IEVSIUKOV, presented his scientific research in a report titled «Harmonization of Land Management and Topographic and Geodetic Activities in Ukraine with the EU Legal Framework: Pathways to Integration into the Internal Market». His presentation focused on the European integration challenges and opportunities for the land management sector in Ukraine, with particular attention to the adaptation of national legislation, technical standards, cadastre, spatial planning, and geodetic activities, aimed at facilitating the free movement of goods and services within the EU internal market.

Beyond academic presentations, the conference proved to be a valuable platform for establishing new partnerships. A particularly noteworthy outcome was the agreement reached between the Dean of the Faculty Taras IEVSIUKOV, and the Head of Leica Geosystems in Ukraine, Oleksandr GORB, which includes:
  • conducting a guest lecture and master class for students of the Faculty of Land Management;
  • providing cutting-edge software for processing laser scanning and UAV imagery for educational use in training future geodesy and land management specialists at NUBiP;
  • offering free training for one faculty member in the use of this software.
Such agreements clearly reflect NUBiP’s ongoing integration into the global professional community and open new opportunities for training highly qualified specialists equipped with advanced technologies.

The active participation of senior students and postgraduates of the Faculty was another highlight of this year’s event. They joined both the exhibition and sectional discussions. Among the most engaged participants were Mykyta KOZHEMYAKO, Dmytro MATVIYCHUK, Georgy YURCHENKO, Mykhailo ISAYEV, Olesya HURETSKA, Kateryna MYKHALIK, Ilya ILLYASHOV, Oleksandr ZAMLYNSKYI, Oleksiy KUTSENKO, among others. Many of them are already working as young professionals in leading industry companies, presenting equipment, software, and innovative solutions. Their participation is a vivid example of the effective combination of academic training and professional growth, demonstrating the high quality of education at NUBiP of Ukraine.

The «Geoforum-2025» program also featured demonstrations of modern UAVs, GNSS systems, and laser scanners, along with poster sessions, master classes from leading international brands, and thematic discussions — all of which saw active involvement from faculty representatives. Leading Ukrainian and international companies, including Leica Geosystems, ElNAV (CHCNav), and others, showcased their latest solutions, practices, and innovations. Particular attention was given to the use of geospatial data for infrastructure restoration, military GIS solutions, and developments in engineering geodesy.

The final plenary session concluded the event, summarizing the work of all sections, adopting conference resolutions, and outlining further guidelines for cooperation among professional communities, scientists, businesses, and educational institutions engaged in training specialists in geodesy and land management.

The Faculty of Land Management of NUBiP of Ukraine once again confirmed its status as a dynamic participant in high-level industry events. The active engagement of its faculty members, students, postgraduates, and employer partners in «Geoforum-2025» marked another important step in strengthening the professional community, which is shaping the future of spatial planning, land management, and geodesy in Ukraine.
For reference:
The International Conference «Geoforum» is one of the largest geodetic forums in Ukraine, bringing together specialists in geodesy, cartography, and cadastre. The conference enjoys wide international recognition, and over the years, it has welcomed participants from more than 30 countries.
