Graduate Iurii Zvieriev about his studying in Estonia

19 листопада 2013, 10:35

First of all I’d like to inform that I’m doing my Master studies in specialty Automated control of technological processes of Faculty of Power Engineering and Automation, National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine. Department responsible for the specialty is the Department of Automation and Robotic Systems. Due to the Department and my supervisor Assoc. Prof. Volodymyr Reshetiuk I have an opportunity to provide my research, introduce my results in Ukraine and abroad.
Currently I am staying in Tallinn, Estonia, and I have been studying in Tallinn University of Technology for 2 months since I have been enrolled to this University according to bilateral agreements between Ukraine and Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia and Archimedes Foundation which annually offer scholarships to foreign nationals.
Here in Tallinn University they have the same Department of Automation, actually, it is called Institute of Automation but any way, I was able to take some courses which are related with my specialty and fit to my academic background.
There are Intelligent Control Systems, Modeling and Identification, Control Instrumentation, Circuits Signal and Systems.
For instance, the former one, Intelligent Systems course gives an overview of complex systems modeling and control methods and their applications in design of reliable control systems, also artificial intelligence methods (such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems, genetic algorithms).
This course really helps me in my researches, which I did in Kiev in our Department last semester. My Master thesis subject is Effective biowaste utilization under greenhouse production.
With the help of University staff I got some MATLAB diagrams and control methods such as predictive control method of controlling production of fuel briquettes from biological waste, and I am going to implement this method in my Master thesis.
One more course is Modelling and Identification covers such topics as: Operational analysis and constrained optimization problems. Linear programming: feasible region, Simplex method and Transportation problem which is really valuable nowadays.
But my favorite subject is Control Instrumentation because there we are dealing with things I am familiar with. On the lecture professor shows control system design and control equipment types, describe PID controller types and tuning mechanisms, shows how to choose the right sensors, amplifiers and actuator devices for the process.
And to turn to my topic – the problem of biowaste utilization in greenhouses – by means of this course I am going to learn some ways how to work with simulated objects which are closed to real plants and put this knowledge to provide and defend my Master thesis well.
In addition to that I visit different production objects connected to my research subject. For instance today I have an excursion to the Iru (the town in Estonia) Waste-to-Energy Power Unit. This is directly leads me to find something out about my Master thesis topic. And I am really looking forward to this excursion.
To sum up I’d like to express my satisfaction to be here, to adopt knowledge, experience from scientists of Tallinn University of Technology, leader engineering and technical higher school in Estonia and EU. I’m grateful to the Department of Automation and Robotic Systems for support and encouragement!
