Etiquette rules during distance learning

January 18, 2021

TACT IS THE ABILITY NOT TO SAY WHAT EVERYONE THINKS.

TACT IS THE ART OF MAKING OTHERS THINK THAT THEY KNOW MORE THAN YOU DO.
R. MORTIMER

Over the past few years, much of our business communication has moved to the Internet.
After the introduction of restrictions and the introduction of quarantine, people became even more immersed in life and work "online" using the latest programs and applications.
Everything that can be translated has been transferred to the remote format: where it has not been before, electronic document management has been introduced, almost all personal meetings and public events have switched to video conferencing, not to mention ordinary communication.

What you need to do to be a worthy online colleague:

  • - Carefully choose the method of communication.
  • - Respect the personal time and space of the people you interact with.
  • - Check messages before sending.
  • - Prepare for online events in advance.

The success of online learning, paradoxically, depends not only on the quality of information and educational environment and teaching materials of the course, but largely on the teacher's ability to communicate with students, and vice versa. The social structure of society is to some extent fixed in language behavior through language etiquette.
Etiquette is not a system of means of struggle for the power of pronunciation, not a weapon, but, on the contrary, a system of means of socio-linguistic "calming" and "reconciliation". Network etiquette (or "netiquette" from the English network etiquette, or "netiquette", or Russian "setiket"), so called rules adopted on the Internet.

THE RESPONSIBLE WORK ALWAYS
In the conditions of remote work many people's perception and attitude to personal time has changed. As a result, the distinction between working days and weekends or holidays has ceased.
It is important to note that the idea that there should always be time for work at home and working all the time is wrong

FOR CLASSES IN HOME SLIPPERS
Of course, holding classes, workshops, discussions, conferences and many other events online has many advantages. Yes, it saves time and money on physical travel to the venue. But it happens that the participants also do not think about some training. First of all, it is important for the video format to look decent on a decent background. Even if the work is done remotely from home, you should take care of your own appearance and choose a background for communication.

In addition, this format does not eliminate the need for punctuality - it is equally important for participants to start and finish at a certain time. Unfortunately, due to the reluctance of participants to spend 5 extra minutes before the event to check the settings and connect the application, camera and microphone, the beginning of the event has to be delayed for a long time, which leads to waiting for the rest.
And this, too, obviously does not show your respect for the other participants or interlocutors.

HE GOES BACK RATHER THAN FORWARD.
