Sergey Zibtsev: "The State does not Allocate a Single Cent for Forest Fire Prevention"

July 16, 2020
Kyiv

On July 6, wildfires began in the Luhansk Oblast. The wildfire engulfed a pine forest in the Novoaydar raion. Among the reasons for its occurrence were the unsafe handling of fire, fire coused with weather conditions, deliberate arson. The disaster covered an area of 5 thousand hectares. This is not the first large-scale wildfire in Ukraine this year. The terrible consequences of the large-scale wildfires in the Chernobyl zone and the Zhytomyr Oblast, which occurred in mid-spring, are still fresh in my memory. Unfortunately, over the years, more and more areas begin to burn out in Ukraine. What is the reason for such disasters and what needs to be done to prevent them, Sergey Zibtsev, head of the Regional Eastern Europe Fire Monitoring Center of NUBiP, tells in an interview with GolosUA.
