Future manager Iryna Shchyrenko: English proficiency opens new horizons of professional opportunities

After two months of training the Master's degree at the 1st year of study in the specialty "Management of the educational institutions", the head of the graduating Department of management and educational technologies Serhiy Kubitskyi traditionally conducts interviews with all students in order to improve the process of providing educational services to scientific and pedagogical staff of the Faculty for Humanities and Pedagogics. We offer you one of these interviews.

Congratulations! Tell us about yourself.

My name is Iryna Shchyrenko. I was born in Kyiv and graduated from the capital-city high school "Potential", located in Obolon district. The desire to feel like a student and to try myself in this role led me to enter the University College of the Kyiv Hrinchenko University in the specialty "Primary Education". Immediately after graduating from college, I started to work in a specialty, because I wanted to get confidence in the right choice, to feel in my place. For the past 5 years, I am pleased to continue my educational path. At the same time, I have obtained a Bachelor's degree in Philology (English and Literature) at the same institution of higher education.

Why have you changed your specialty?

I have always sought to expand my capabilities not only in my personal but also in my professional life. Knowledge of English is extremely important for educators of any level - from a kindergarten teacher or an academic group tutor to the head of an institution of higher education, because in this case, we have a huge horizon of opportunities to diversify cooperation with students or pupils. It is also an indisputable simplification of communication in other countries, an opportunity to exchange experience and educational technologies.

Why did you choose NULES of Ukraine to enter the magistracy?

For me, the most important factor was the ability to combine learning with work. For me, these are equivalent areas of my life that I want to pay the same amount of attention to. Studying at the Faculty for Humanities and Pedagogics of NULES of Ukraine makes it easy to do so. To some extent, my decision was influenced by the location of the University, because in the conditions of life in the capital, the opportunity to easily get to an educational institution is very important. A nice bonus is the road that runs through the beautiful Holosiivskyi Park.
 

Why did you choose the educational program “Management of the educational institutions”?

Education is the key to personal development. This is a primary reason for studying for a Master's degree. I want to diversify my knowledge by studying management, which will undoubtedly be useful in any field of activity. Having reviewed the list of subjects taught at the Faculty for Humanities and Pedagogics of NULES of Ukraine, I’ve got interested in studying in this area. The Educational Management program provides a great deal of future prospects.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am always looking for ways to get new life experiences and find inspiration in everyday life. I enjoy doing creative work, I love to find interesting places in our city and visit them. I love traveling in Ukraine, every year I discover new cities and towns that have their own unique atmosphere. I especially value the time that can be spent in nature, because it is always a unique charge of cheerfulness.
 

What are you planning to do after graduation?

Never stop learning and working. In any age and field of work, there is always something to learn and where to grow. I dream that we will be able to contribute to the renewal and reformation of the Ukrainian school education, which will be fun for both children and teachers. Sometimes life itself gives us clues as to where to go, so I plan not to miss my chances of success.
