NUBiP sportsmen took five medals at European championship in amateur radio direction finding

September 20, 2017

In September European championship in amateur radio direction finding was held Druskininkai (Lithuania). NUBiP sportsmen being part of Ukraine’s national team took five medals.

Sportsmen competed in the following kinds of sport: radio orienteering, sprint events at classical distances at 3.5МHГz and 144МHz. They were really difficult. The weather was rainy. It rained all days but for the last one. In the rain it was almost impossible to read the topographic man and run through soft soil, broken trees. In such weather radio equipment works worse. Due to weather conditions our team was losing in the first two days. Our sportsmen made many mistakes and were not able to take top prizes.

Then, adapting to weather conditions, terrain and maps our sportsmen showed high results. A postgraduate students of the department of social pedagogy and information technologies in education Oleksandra Parhomenko took two silver and two bronze medals in individual and team categories. To win she needed some 16 seconds. These are first medals for Oleksandra in the most complicated classical distances (a fox search at 3,5 МYHz and 144 МHz). Oleksandra is now one of the strongest sportswomen of European and world elite.

Viacheslav Parhomenko, a senior teacher of the department of physical training, took a bronze medal in M50 category in a team event.

We congratulate our sportsmen and wish them good luck at European championship 2017 in Poland and at World championship 2018 in South Korea!

Olena Otroshko,
a senior teacher of the department of physical training
