The meeting for the staff and students of the English-speaking departments of the Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogy with Cristina Kamsiukaite

 November, 12 Department of Romance and Germanic languages and translation held a meeting for the staff and students of the English-speaking departments of the Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogy with Cristina Kamsiukaite, who is a member of the European Commission's Support Group for Ukraine. The topic of her lecture was «The fundamentals of the European Common Agriculture Policy (objectives, mechanisms, impact, reform process), and the concept of the Single and Comprehensive Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development in Ukraine for 2015 -2020». In fact, the whole meeting included two parts, connected by the main subject, namely the common agricultural policy (CAP), that has been the main active regulator in the agricultural sector since the last century.

In the 1st part of the meeting Kristina Kamsiukaite told much about the CAP’s foundation, initiated by the European Commission after signing the Rome treaty in 1957. The main objective of this document was creation the common agricultural market.

Since then the CAP has been one of the original pillars of the European Community. Among the basic principle and objectives of the CAP on the nowadays’ stage are: to increase productivity, by promoting technical progress and ensuring the optimum use of the factors of production, in particular labour; to ensure a fair standard of living for the agricultural Community; to stabilise markets; to secure availability of supplies; to provide consumers with food at reasonable prices.

In the second half, except answering numerous questions, Christina Kamsiukaite spoke much about the results and future prospects of Ukraine's accession to the single market of the CAP’s group. The purpose of the CAP in Ukraine is providing farmers with an acceptable standard of living, consumers with quality products at fair prices, and the preservation of agricultural heritage.
