PRODUCTIVE MEETING WITH COLLEAGUES OF THE FACULTY OF ANIMAL SCIENCE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

15 July 2023, 19:04
For almost three years, the world has been switching all spheres of life to the new reality. This is our present: meetings, interviews, negotiations, trainings - all online. We were forced to adapt to the new conditions, and thus to adapt traditional events (meetings, forums, conferences, practices) to unusual circumstances by instantly moving them to the virtual space, which contributed to both the development of communication foundations and the achievement of new results.

With the help of cloud-based communication services, Natalia BEVZ, a second-year PhD student at the Department of Poultry, Pig and Sheep Breeding Technologies of the renowned National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, organized, moderated and translated an online meeting between the academic staff of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Aquatic Bioresources of NULES (Prof. Vadym LYKHACH and Prof. Anna LYKHACH) and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry of the University of Florida (USA).

Representatives from the University of Florida were: Antonio FACIOLA, PhD, Associate Professor of Ruminant Nutrition, Faculty of Animal Science, Graduate and Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Director of the University of Florida Research Laboratory, and Diwakar Vyas, PhD, Associate Professor of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science.

Mr. Antonio FACIOLA has received a number of significant awards, including: in 2022, the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Educator Award; in 2020 and 2021, the University-wide Undergraduate Advising/Mentor of the Year Award, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Florida and the Undergraduate Advising/Mentor of the Year Award, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Florida.
In turn, Mr. Diwakar Vyas was awarded: in 2020-2021, the University-wide Advising/Mentor of the Year Award, Faculty of Undergraduate Studies, University of Florida; in 2012, NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship (3 years); in 2011, the University of Maryland Graduate School Summer Research Fellowship ($5000) and received the title of "Best Doctoral Student" at the University of Maryland.
The subject of discussion at the online meeting was the possibility of academic mobility and internships for students, graduate students and leading researchers at the University of Florida's Innovation Lab. Our American partners are absolutely open and support communication on this issue
Next, Ms. Natalia spoke about her volunteer work during the first half of 2023 at the University of Florida on the Livestock Testing Program under the direct supervision of Gerald Salas-Solis who throughout the experiment proved to be professional and knowledgeable in his field.

Mr. Gerald Salas-Solis is well respected by his colleagues and constantly improves his professional level. The research was conducted in the laboratory, which is adapted for research and student training. The title of the research is "Decomposition of rumen dry matter in situ of three hydroponic feeds and corn silage in lactating Holstein cows".

The relevance of the topic was that climate change can have a potential negative impact on feed production due to increasingly variable weather conditions, which emphasizes the need for innovative solutions. Among them, hydroponic forages grown in a controlled environment are becoming alternative sources that can be used for dairy cattle. The aim of this study was to evaluate the dry matter degradability of hydroponic forages and corn silage in the rumen of Holstein cows.
So, the result of the meeting is fruitful, there is a preliminary agreement on cooperation, the vector of cooperation has been formed, the work is underway, which means that there must be success, it's just a matter of time! We sincerely thank Dr. Antonio Faciola, Dr. Diwakar Vyas, and the entire American people for supporting Ukraine on the path of struggle for independence and victory.
