The 42nd International Forestry Students Symposium was held on August 06-21, 2014, in in the Canadian province - British Columbia. One hundred fifteen young scientists from 32 countries participated in the Symposium.

Assistant of the Department of Forest Management and Forest Valuation, Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Park Gardening, Mykola M. Kutya, was invited to present the paper “Using GIS and remote sensing data for the inventory of recreational forests by sampling methods”.
Mykola Kutya shared his experience, “Even before the trip we had a desire to get to know the country, the forest areas of which are ranked third largest in the world. I was impressed by the work of the organizers, who successfully prepared and conducted everything at the highest level. The program was very varied. But for attending interesting lectures and seminars, we were able to visit Vancouver and 10 other cities in British Columbia. During the Symposium we visited three Universities: the University of British Columbia (UBC), University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), Thompson Rivers University (TRU), where we met with students and professors and got acquainted with students’ life and education.”

“We also enriched our knowledge about the history of forestry, the people and culture of the region. We visited tourist camps, parks, forest research stations, lakes, ancient forests and mountains. In addition, I met many interesting people, the forest industry experts. It is a huge benefit that the Local Committee of the International Forestry Students Association (IFSA) is represented in our university, and, therefore, students and scientists from the Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Park Gardening have the opportunity to participate in such events and integrate into forestry world community!”
