Learning as a necessary condition for success

March 1, 2019

In today's world of constant change, we, the participants of the educational process, are in permanent stress, because constantly have to make every effort to respond to these changes. In search of the best we experiment and often make mistakes.

The teacher may, in an effort to meet all the methodological requirements for his work, may pay extra attention to the form and not be able to update the content of the information for study, and as a result, becomes uninteresting for a demanding student.

For his part, the student, often in an effort to get everything immediately, is redirected prematurely to work, rejoicing, often questionable, to material independence.

The analysis of success in the last few sessions at the Faculty of Agrarian Management has shown that there is a particularly noticeable decrease in the motivation for classroom education among graduate students. And this is not surprising, since after 3.5 years of study in the walls of her alma mater and 4 months of looking for work after the release before the start of the admission company, young people often make a hasty conclusion about their "sufficient" competence and readiness to take a worthy place on the work market.

In order to remedy the situation, it was decided to communicate with college students, in terms of their professional perspectives and the need for further continuing education. The NUBiP of Ukraine "Boiarskyi College of Ecology and Natural Resources" was chosen as the first base for such a meeting not by chance, but because the faculty has been cooperating successfully with the teachers and students of this institution for a long time, and its graduates, in the vast majority, come to our university.

The conversation with the junior degree "Junior Specialist" in the field of knowledge “Management and Administration” began with discussing some of the forecasts announced at the Davos Summit in 2018. Thus, over the next three years, almost 160 professionals will disappear, by the year 2030, as a result of automation and robotic production processes, 800 million workers will be released. But, at the same time, futurists confidently state that a person will remain the center (core) of the functioning of the economy, although for this one has to possess certain skills and abilities.According to Oxford University researchers, 85% of life and professional success are already determined by so-called 'soft-skills', among which the main ones are: readiness for change (changeability), communication skills, interact, win together, ability to find, curiosity, authenticity and, of course, the ability to learn all life.

Further, the conversation was about a specialty, that students chose, which essentially involves the development of these skills, and they only need to keep abreast of the chosen path and constantly study.

In order to effectively assimilate information during training it is appropriate to take advantage of the advice of scientists, whose results have become available to the general public. Previously, the successes of excellent learners were often determined by the innate parameters of the brain, the volitional qualities of the students or the coincidence of circumstances in the processing of the material, which gave an unexpected result. Nowadays, every person, whether an adult or a child, a humanitarian or mathematician, a "talent" or a "middle peasant", can, using the instructions of scientists, start their brain to the full.

In this connection, for college students, who at the final stage of study are required to prepare for the final state certification at a very short time, and for the further admission to the university – to make an external independent assessment of the Ukrainian language and literature and professional exams, now it is quite unlikely in the adventure can become expert advice in the field of effective knowledge  assimilation, Professor of  Engineering Sciences at the University of Auckland, author of the book-bestseller "Learn to Learn". How To Start Your Brain To Full» Barbara Oakley. That's why at the end of the lecture, every listener from the lecturer received not only tips for reading, but also short notes: 10 rules as needed, and 8 rules, as you do not need to learn, taken from the book Barbara Oakley.

I express my gratitude to the Director of the Boiarskyi College of Ecology and Natural Resources Sergii Kropyvko and teachers of the college Yakymovskyi Ruslan Victorovych, Ruban Olga Oleksandrivna and Liudmyla Andriivna Aleksova for organizing the meeting, the opportunity to communicate with the children and bring the information they need today.
