    Department of Microbiology, Virology and Biotechnology - one of the leading fundamental departments at the faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The department originated simultaneously with the formation of Kiev zootechnical veterinary institute in 1920 as an independent – was organized in 1922. the first head was Professor F.Z. Omelchenko, then – professors Neschadymenko M.P., Revo N.V., Fursenko B.V., Slabospitsky T.P., Nikolskyy V.V., Associate professor Bortnichuk V.A., Professor Onufriyev V.P., Prpfessor Skybitsky V.G.
 

    Since 2016, the department is headed by Professor T.V. Mazur.

The main goals of the department are:

  • • teaching students the basics of fundamental and applied aspects of microbiology, virology and biotechnology,
  • • training of Masters, PhD. and Doctors of sciences,
  • • the study of current issues relating to animal health, quality and safety of livestock products,
  • • implementation of new technologies in veterinary medicine and agriculture.

    The priorities of the department are organizing and conducting at the present level of educational, scientific and educational work, solving actual problems of veterinary medicine and the introduction of positive results in practice.
    Main courses are "Veterinary Mikrobiology", "Veterinary Virology", "Biotechnology in Veterinary Medicine", "Technical Microbiology", "Food microbiology."
