Disciplines

Teaches such disciplines as “Veterinary Clinical Biochemistry”, “Animal Biochemistry with the basics of physical and colloidal chemistry” - for the Bachelor's degree; “Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics”, “Laboratory Quality Management” - for the Master's degree; “Research Methods and Organization of Dissertation Preparation”, ‘Molecular Mechanisms of Metabolic Regulation’, ‘Methods of Biochemical Research’ and ‘Veterinary Biochemistry’ - for the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education in the specialty 091 ‘Biology’ and 211 ‘Veterinary Medicine’.

Education

Was born on January 28, 1973. In 1996 he graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National Agrarian University (now the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine). He specializes in veterinary medicine.

The main scientific results of Associate Professor Valerii Tsvilikhovsky were obtained in the following areas: study of lipid composition and lipid/protein ratio of plasma membranes of small intestine enterocytes, liver, kidney, brain, heart and muscles of speckled gopher in states of active life, awakening and hibernation (hypobiosis); study of lipid composition in liver, brain, white rat tissues under conditions of artificial hypobiosis; methodological developments for the determination of pesticide and mycotoxin residues in feed and food raw materials; monitoring studies of pesticide and mycotoxin residues in feed, food raw materials, water, and soil; study of the lipid spectrum of blood and quail organ tissues under the background content of ochratoxin A in feed.

V.I. Tsvilikhovsky has been working at the Department of Animal Biochemistry and Physiology named after Academician M.F. Gulyi of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine since 2001 in the following positions: junior researcher 2001-2003; assistant 2003-2006; associate professor since 2006. In 2008, he was promoted to Associate Professor in the specialty 03.00.04 - Biochemistry.

A separate line of V.I. Tsvilikhovsky's career was his work at the Ukrainian Laboratory of Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, where he worked in 2001-2006 as a junior, research and senior researcher, and from 2006-2015 - as head of the research department of chromatographic and spectral analysis.

Dissertation research

In 2001, he graduated from the postgraduate department at the National Agrarian University and defended his PhD thesis on “Features of the lipid composition of plasma membranes of small intestinal enterocytes of the speckled gopher in states of active life and hibernation” in the specialty 03.00.04 - biochemistry.

Scientific interests

Research area: study of antioxidant protection and lipid metabolism in animals under the influence of natural and artificial factors.

Expert, project and community activitie

From 2004 to 2009, V.I. Tsvilikhovsky was the responsible head of the scientific state themes: “Monitoring of contamination of agricultural products and development of proposals for improving the standardization of safety indicators for livestock products” (2004-2006); ‘Development and implementation of an express system for quality control and safety of agricultural products in accordance with EU standards’ (2007-2009).

From 2010 to 2014, V.I. Tsvilikhovsky was a scientific supervisor of scientific state topics: “Determination of critical points in the technology of manufacturing and storage of animal feed by quality and safety indicators” (2010-2012); ‘Monitoring of the trace element composition of Ukrainian soils and substantiation of fertilizer systems for the formation of biologically complete agricultural products’ (2012-2014).

In 2007, V.I. Tsvilikhovsky, together with other university staff, took part in a technical cooperation project to improve practical scientific education at the Ukrainian Laboratory of Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products of the National Agrarian University. The project was implemented jointly with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Tokyo Agricultural University. During his 2-month stay in Japan, Mr. Tsvilikhovsky improved his skills in the field of agricultural and feed safety. The new knowledge allowed him to more progressively implement foreign methods in the quality control and safety of agricultural products in Ukraine and to gain international recognition for the Ukrainian Laboratory and Safety of Agricultural Products.

Since 2016, V.I. Tsvilikhovsky has been the head of the interdepartmental educational and scientific laboratory of veterinary diagnostic research, where he organized the educational and scientific work of masters and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

In 2017, the master's program in Laboratory Science was canceled. V.I. Tsvilikhovsky organizes an interdepartmental group of teachers to create a master's program “Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostics”, which in 2018 is successfully supported by the Academic Council of the University and is introduced into the initial process of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to train specialists in veterinary diagnostic laboratories.

Selected publications

He is the author of more than 100 scientific works, including 101 scientific directions, 7 harmonized National Standards, 70 educational and methodological works, 8 textbooks and 3 monographs.
