Master Programmes Of NULES Of UKRAINE
National university of life and environmental sciences has been training Master students since 1996.
Curricula and master training programmes are compiled according to the law of Ukraine “About higher education”. They were tested in conformity to the requirements of American and European systems of higher agricultural education which is testified by the memoranda about recognition with the following universities: the USA – Iowa (Reims, May, 1996, June 1998 ); Louisiana (Baton Rouge, August 1998 ); DePaul (Chicago, September 2005 ); Kingdom of Belgium – Ghent (Ghent, September, 2002 р.); Germany – Humboldt (Berlin, September 2002 ); Weihenschtephan (Trisdorf, April 2005 р.); Anhalt (Bernburg, October 2006 ); the Netherlands – Wageningen (Wageningen, October 2006 ).
National university of life and environmental sciences (headquarters in Kyiv and its Southern affiliate of “Crimean Agro-technological University”, Simpheropol’ ) trains in 40 specialities (tab. 1).

Students who studied and are going to continue their education within the chosen direction of training are enrolled at the programmes of production specialization according to the results of the entrance examinations to obtain deeper qualification in the chosen speciality. These programmes are realized with the aim to support production and scientific spheres by highly qualified specialists who have innovative knowledge and are able to embody it into current efficient technologies.
Master training of research specialization is carried out at the departments that are allowed to train post-graduates and get sufficient financing to carry out researches and are succeeded in scientific research work. Applicants at Master programs have to speak at least one foreign language. Their training envisages the continuation of research activity according to the chosen speciality at post graduate course or at scientific research institutions and scientific enterprises.
The most popular educational and professional programmes of the direction are the following: „Specific categories” in specialities „Pedagogics of higher school”, „Quality, standardization and certification”, „Business administration”. Bachelors (specialists/Masters) of any directions who speak foreign languages (English, German, French, Japanese etc.) fluently are preferred while applying for these specialities.
Master programmes in spesiality „Pedagogics of higher school” are realized to train teachers for higher agricultural institutions of І–ІІ levels of accreditations.
Master programmes in speciality „Quality, standardization and certification” are elaborated to train specialists in adaptation of Ukrainian system of AIC products quality evaluation, its certification and standardization according to the proper international standards and its application in practice. This speciality also envisages the training experts analysts for the proper laboratories.
Master programmes in speciality „Business administration” are oriented to train highly qualified managers who are able to manage agrarian business and have innovative managerial knowledge and skills, up-to-date computer technologies and foreign languages. Basic education (economic and non-economic) and future job ifluence the content of these programmes. Technological disciplines are envisaged in curricula for the optional disciplines for the students who have economic education and economic ones - for those who don’t have such education.
Two MBA programmes are realized at the university with the support of a number of foreign universities: international German programme „Master of Business Administration in Agriculture (MBA-agr)” (created by NULES of Ukraine, Weihenschtephan university of applied sciences and Humboldt university (Germany)); international English programme „Master of Business Administration in Agribusiness” approved by FEM CUAP (created by NULES of Ukraine and a number of agricultural universities of Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Ukraine).
Master programmes in direction “State administration” in speciality “State service” are popular in the university. These programmes are oriented to train specialists for state authority and local self-government who are able to develop and apply efficiently obtained knowledge in state regulation based on current law and information technologies.
The content of Master programmes at NULES of Ukraine is determined by:
- requirements to the professional activity of the specialists;
- the direction and professional specialization of the previously obtained education;
- the peculiarities of Master training.
Compulsory disciplines for the students and Masters of the university (Module 1) train Masters for their future scientific activity and post graduate study, assist to master a foreign language, to develop nature and society in harmony, have the information concerning international standardization and certification system of agricultural production branch and forecast the development of world agriculture and food resources .
The list and extent of disciplines which are compulsory within the proper speciality ( module 2) are determined by branch standards of higher education of Ukraine. These disciplines form the base of a speciality and Master qualification.
Optional disciplines form the base of specialization within the proper speciality. The list and content of the optional disciplines chosen by NULES of Ukraine (module 3) are formed by the proper training and scientific centre (TSC) of the university. The disciplines chosen by students (module 4) and topics of Masters’ papers are formed by the proper department which trains Master students. These disciplines enable students to prepare Master’s paper at the current level and adapt a Master graduate to a future job.
Specialists training including the research according to the Master’s paper topic starts since the first term of their study at Master Course. Considerable part of training is assigned for self-study.
Classes are conducted in the form of lectures, seminars, laboratory and individual lessons using distance technologies of study.
Self-study is the main method of obtaining knowledge and skills when students are free of classes. At NULES of Ukraine is supported by the system of training methods: text-books, manuals, synopses of teachers’ lectures etc. and their electronic versions which can be used in distance education. This work is done according to the schedules that enable students to get individual access to the necessary didactic materials. The schedule is given to students at the beginning of the current term..
Students’ self-study using complex equipment, information access systems includes proper department teachers’ consultations.
At NULES of Ukraine unitary corporative network which has 3000 computers, tens of servers, 14 sites of the proper subdivisions of the university is created to conduct distance education. Educational and information portal functions on the base of Мооdle platform (original Ukrainian version), electronic training courses in all normative disciplines of Master programmes are disposed in it. These factors enable to use distance study technologies in Master training process that meet the world standards.
Special attention is paid to students’ practical training system which is conducted in the form of laboratory and practical lessons, training, production and pre-diploma practices that are done at university’s centers of practical training:
● 3 research stations – SD of NAUU "Agronomy Research Station" and SD of NAUU "Boyarka Forestry Research Station" (Kyiv region) and Scientific-Research Station of Mountain Forestry and Gardening "Foros" (AR of Crimea)
● 7 Educational-Research Farms (TRF) – SD of NAUU "Velyka Snitynka TRF named after O.V. Muzychenko", SD of NAUU "TRF "Vorzel" and TRF of SSD of NAUU "Nemishaeve Agro-Technical College" in Kyiv Region, SD of NAUU "Educational-Research Breed Poultry Plant named after Frunze" and SD "TRF "Komunar" (AR of Crimea), TRF of the SSD of NAUU "Zalishchyky Agricultural College named after Khraplyvyy" and TRF of the SSD of NAUU "Nizhyn Agro-Technical Institute" (Chernigiv Region)
● Special bases for practical training of NAUU regional higher educational establishments of І-ІІ accreditation levels
● NAUU Training-Scientific Center of Biology and Ecology of Subtropical Plants and Landscape Science (Yalta, AR of Crimea)
● NAUU botanical garden
Methods of testing are exams and credits which are done in the form of tests. The final grade is given according to the current normative acts, national system and European system of ECTS credit transfer for all disciplines and practices included into curriculum.
Once a term Bachelor and Master students get attestation at department and TSC meetings where he or she reports on implementation of individual plan on the whole as well as Master’s paper.
Defence of Master’s paper is the final stage of students training and the form of graduates state attestation.
