Utilizing Stream Waters in the Suppression of Forest Fires with the Help of New Technologies
The project “Utilizing Stream Waters in the Suppression of Forest Fireswith the Help of New Technologies” with the acronym “Streams-2-SUPPRESSFires”started on April 1st 2013. The total duration of the project will be 24 months
The program is funded by the EU INTERREG IV “Black Sea Basin 2007-
The lead partner is Kavala Instituteof Technology from Greece. Additionally there are five more partners from the Black SeaRegion. Specifically, Braila Prefecture from Romania, ArtvinCoruh University from Turkey,Eco-TIRAS International Association of River Keepers from Republic of Moldova, The National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NULES of Ukraine) and ZikatarEnvironmental Center from Armenia.
The Kick-off Meeting was held in Braila, Romania in April 18-19, 2013 with all partners participating. The actions of the project will be held in all participating countries. One the strengths of the project are the great number of different partners from different countries. It also was one of the highest funded projects for the EU INTERREG IV “Black Sea Basin 2007-
Its purpose is to develop a holisticand complete fire suppression system for the Black Sea Region. This will be achieved bypromoting research and innovation in the field of fire suppression to protect natural areasby utilizing new technologies and stream waters sustainably.
