Visit of Head of National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine to University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Vienna, Austria)
January 23-26, 2013, Head of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Academician Dmytro O. Melnychuk visited the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Vienna, Austria) at the invitation of Rector of BOKU, Professor Martin H. Gerzabek. The leaders discussed potential cooperation between the two universities.
For reference: The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, or simply BOKU (derived from its German name, Universität für Bodenkultur Wien) was founded in 1872. There are currently around 10,500 students enrolled and 700 teaching and 470 administrative staff employed. Teaching, research and administrative buildings are located in different parts of Vienna. BOKU collaborates with universities all around the world and offers bachelor-type degrees, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees.
Head of NUBiP of Ukraine entered into negotiations with Vice Rector for Research and International Research Collaboration, Professor, Josef Glößl, Head of the Institute of Surveying, Remote Sensing and Land Information, Professor, Clement Atzberger, and Professor Hans-Peter Kaul (Institute of Agronomy and Plant Breeding). Main issue discussed was the possibility of starting student and teacher exchange programmes in areas that are of common interest to both universities (such as environmental protection, sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas, food quality and safety, renewable energy sources etc.).
It was agreed that the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences will participate at the International Scientific Conference “Earth Bioresources and Environmental Biosafety: Challenges and Opportunities” dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine and the 15th anniversary of the Global Consortium of Higher Education and Research for Agriculture (GCHERA), which will take place on November 4-6, 2013, at NUBiP of Ukraine.
During the stay, Rector Dmytro O. Melnychuk was invited to the annual university ball BOKU-2013, which is traditionally held at Hofburg palace in Vienna.
