Short project description

The aim of the German-Ukrainian University Network (DUAHN) project is to deepen, expand, and develop long-term cooperation between Ukrainian and German partners in key sectors for Ukraine — the agricultural and food sectors.

The project involves Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (Germany), six leading Ukrainian agrarian universities, as well as their 12 affiliated agrarian colleges.

Over the four-year implementation period, a range of activities will be carried out based on already established partnerships, aimed at supporting the recovery and modernisation of Ukrainian higher education institutions. Cooperation reached a particularly high level of intensity within the DAAD project “Digitalisation of Ukrainian Agricultural Higher Education Institutions” (2020–2024). Within this project, 732 participants were directly involved and an additional 538 indirectly involved. This contributed significantly to improving the digitalisation skills of Ukrainian academic staff.

The experience gained through previous projects, as well as the established networks and partnerships, have formed a strong foundation for the implementation of new initiatives within the framework of DUAHN.

A key element of international cooperation is the International Master’s Programme in Agromanagement (MAM), implemented by Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with Ukrainian partners (at NUBiP — under the title “Administrative Management”). The programme, which has been in place for more than 30 years, promotes sustainable and effective academic exchange.

One of the important areas of activity within the programme is the development of economic databases that are of crucial importance for Ukraine’s European integration processes.

Currently, Ukraine’s agricultural and food sectors are facing serious challenges, particularly due to the war, difficulties in production and export, and liquidity problems of enterprises. The opening of the land market has led to significant changes in ownership structures, which are especially challenging for small and medium-sized farms. As EU experience shows, these enterprises will play a key role in Ukraine’s further integration into the European market.

Preparing agrarian universities and colleges to act as active participants in this transformation process is a complex but extremely important task, which is at the core of the activities of the DUAHN network.
