Department history
In September 1922, the Department of Pathology and Therapy of Internal Non-Communicable Diseases of Farm Animals and the Department of Clinical Diagnostics were established as part of the Kyiv Veterinary Institute, which were united into a single structure in 1932.
From 1999 to 2012 head of the Department of Clinical Diagnostics and Therapy was Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor M.Tsvilihovskyy.
From 2005 to 2008 the acting head of the Department of Clinical Diagnostics and therapy was the Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Associate Professor S.Holopura.
In 2008 head of the department of Clinical Diagnostics and Therapy was Doctor of Veterinary Sciences., Professor V. Grishchenko.
From 2008 to 2012 head of the Department of Clinical Diagnostics and Therapy was Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor M.Tsvilihovskyy.
From 2012 to 2015 the acting head of the Department of Clinical Diagnostics and Therapy was Associate Professor S.Holopura.
From 2015 to 2021 the head of the Department of Clinical Diagnostics and Therapy was Associate Professor V. Kostenko.
From 2021 to the present time, the Head of the Department is a Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor N. Grushanska
The fate of more than 150 people is connected with the activities of the Department of Therapy and Clinical Diagnostics at different periods of its history. In total, over 100 years, the Department's staff has defended 10 doctoral and 59 PhD theses, published about 2300 works, including 85 textbooks, manuals and reference books, 75 articles in encyclopaedias and dictionaries, about 170 methodological guidelines for the educational process, 32 monographs, 57 scientific and scientific and production recommendations, 62 copyright certificates and patents, 15 industry-specific education standards and model curricula, more than 30 technical specifications and guidelines for veterinary drugs and information sheets were prepared and published, more than 1600 scientific, educational, methodological, bibliographic articles and abstracts were published in Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, English and German.
The department has conducted research on the development of methods for the treatment of stachybotryotoxicosis and dendrodochyotoxicosis, the study of horses with clinical signs of colic, damage to the prestomach of cattle, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases of young farm animals.
In recent years the department has successfully conducted a study of animal microelementosis, molecular mechanisms of formation of functional activity in the intestines of animals in the early postnatal period under normal and under pathology, development of rapid methods for early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of metabolic pathologies in farm and domestic animals, functional state of the sport horse and development of methods for their recovery after intense exercise, molecular mechanisms of the formation of immune resistance of the newborn animals; natural resistance and ways of improving natural resistance in animals, the impact of UV-irradiated blood in animals with different diseases, development of new therapeutic and prophylactic drugs with immune stimulating effect, created on the basis of biogenic compounds of trace elements; development of methods of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of internal diseases using the latest technology in veterinary medicine, the development of methods, instruments and equipment for remote diagnostics clinical signs in animals.
From 01.07.2024, the Department of Therapy and Clinical Diagnostics was renamed the Department of Internal Animal Diseases
