Practical Class in the Discipline "Clinical Veterinary Pharmacology and Pharmacy"
On April 1, 2025, 6th-year Master’s students majoring in Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of NULES of Ukraine took part in a practical class within the course "Clinical Veterinary Pharmacology and Pharmacy", under the specialization "Veterinary Pharmacy".
The class on the topic "Clinical Pharmacology of Antimicrobial and Fungicidal Drugs" was conducted by Associate Professor Vadym Ishchenko of the Department of Vertebrate Physiology and Pharmacology at the Small Animal Clinic of the Educational and Research Clinical Center "Vetmedservice".
During the session, students learned the fundamental rules for working with patients suspected of infectious diseases and the principles of prescribing antimicrobial veterinary medicinal products. In a hands-on environment, they practiced the step-by-step clinical workflow:
- Examination of the animal and sampling of materials for testing
- Prescription of "first-day" drugs based on clinical indications
- Receipt of bacteriological test results and antibiograms (samples were sent to a laboratory in Kyiv)
- Adjustment of the treatment plan accordingly
In working with a patient suspected of dermatophytosis, students practiced pathogen identification using the Dermakit diagnostic kit.
Such practical sessions are a crucial component of training future specialists, as they allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life settings and contribute to the development of professional competencies in the field of veterinary medicine.
