AND YET WE ARE... INTELLECTUALS! Ukrainian language week at the faculty of humanities and pedagogy begins with an intellectual show

 No one needs to be convinced that the most valuable asset of humanity in general, and of any ethnic group in particular, is language. No one can deny the truth that a family, tribe, nation, or people live as long as they are united by the word. It has become an axiom that a foreign language can be learned in a certain period of time, and that a lifetime is not enough to comprehend the native language in all its dimensions. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian language is not destined for such a fate. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian language is not destined for such a fate. But it, viburnum-like, nightingale-like, melodic, unique, did not disperse among stronger languages, but grew stronger, overcame all obstacles, and is the state language in modern united and independent Ukraine. We, the younger generation, realize that the treasure given by our ancestors must be protected and multiplied. One drop at a time, one tiny bit at a time.

The event at the faculty of humanities and pedagogy, held on October 21 by 1st year psychology students together with their teacher of literature, PhD in philology, associate professor of the department of journalism and language communication Nina Stepanenko, was a tiny drop in the bucket. At the beginning, she addressed us with a welcoming speech, inspired us, and convinced us once again that there is no personal progress without the native language.

We are talking about the intellectual show “Native language expert”. The tasks were prepared by Nina Stepanivna, and they are really charged with the potential of intellectuality. The phraseological system, in particular its paremic realm, which focuses on everything around us in elegant folk costumes, won the various competitions with its bright colors. How much we learned about the mystery of the word as the most present carrier of information and creator of imagery! The students boldly went on a play with synonyms and antonyms, metaphors and periphrases, bowed before their majesty, and became poets and prose writers, publicists and critics.

The spirit of cheerfulness and objectivity prevailed at the event.

The jury, which consisted of future psychologists and journalists, evaluated our achievements fairly and managed to distinguish the most worthy among the participants of the intellectual battle. All those involved in the intellectual show proved themselves worthy of the title, so we can say that friendship, illuminated by boundless love for the Ukrainian Mother tongue, won.

We are looking forward to the next interesting events that will bring us closer to the heights of wisdom, types of perfection, and the limits of professionalism. And you, Our Native Language, be the sea, “which has no bottom and no shores,” which is “simple and reliable,” because you are “the soul of our nation” (Valeriy Shevchuk).
