Dmytro O. Melnychuk

            Rector of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.

Dmytro O. Melnychuk was born on November 5, 1943 in the village Mariyka in Zhashkiv district in Cherkasy region.
1959 – finished education at Zhashkiv Secondary School No. 2. 
1964 – graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (now the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine).
1965-1968 –postgraduate student of the Department of Biochemistry of the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (UAA).
1968-1969 – works as an Assistant at the Department of Biochemistry of the UAA.
1969-1972 - Junior Researcher at O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
1972-1982 – Senior Researcher at O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
1979-1982 – works as the Head of the Department of Biochemistry of the UAA (dual job-holder).
1982-1984 – Head of the Laboratory of Metabolism Regulation of O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
1984-1992 – Rector of the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy and the Head of the Laboratory of Metabolism Regulation of O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
1992-1994 – Rector of the Ukrainian State Agrarian University (USAU, former UAA).
1995-1996 – Vice-President of the Academy of Agrarian Sciences. Since 1996 – Member of the Presidium of the Academy of Agrarian Sciences. In 2001-2003 – Vice-President of the Academy of Agrarian Sciences. Currently, Dmytro O. Melnychuk is a member of the Presidium of NAAS of Ukraine.
1994-2008 – Rector of the National Agrarian University (NAU, former USAU). 
Since October 30, 2008 – Rector of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (former NAU).
 
Scientific Achievements
1969 – Candidate of Biological Sciences.
1974 – Senior Researcher, field of study "Biochemistry".
1978 – Doctor of Biological Sciences.
1984 – Professor of the Department of Biological Chemistry.
1984 – Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology.
1990 – Honoured Scientist of Ukraine.
1990 – Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialistic Republic.
1990 – Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences.
1997 – Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
 
Awards:
2003 – The Order of the State; The Gold Star of Hero of Ukraine.
November 2008 – Lomonosov Order (Russian Federation).
February 2008 – The Order of France "For Merits".
Since 2009 – Chevalier of the Orders of Ukraine “For Merits” (III degree – in 1997, II degree – in 1998, I degree - in 2009).
 
In 1998, Dmytro O. Melnychuk founded the Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for the Agricultural and Life Sciences and was elected to be its President. Till now he remains the Honorary President of GCHERA. Moreover, Dmytro O. Melnychuk is a member of the Council at UN FAO.
Dmytro O. Melnychuk is Honorary Doctor of the Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany), Ghent University (Belgium), and Lublin Agricultural University (Poland). He is Professor Emeritus of the University of Iowa (USA), Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev (Russian Federation), Astrakhan Technical University (Russian Federation), Warsaw University (Poland) and Kazakh Agrarian University (Kazakhstan) as well as Visiting Professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture (Japan) and Honorary Senator of the Senate of Louisiana (USA).
Dmytro O. Melnychuk is a well-known scientist in the field of biochemistry. He is the author/co-author of more than 600 scientific publications, including 10 books and monographs. He trained 22 candidates of sciences and 12 doctors of sciences. The relevance of his research activities proved by 70 patents and numerous recommendations.
Dmytro O. Melnychuk is married. His wife, Tetyana F. Melnychuk, is the Associate Professor at the Department for Cultural Studies of NULES of Ukraine.
The scientist has two sons. The elder son, Sergiy D. Melnychuk, is Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the NAAS of Ukraine, Head of the Education and Research Institute of Quality of Bioresources and Life safety of the NULES of Ukraine. The younger son, Maxim D. Melnychuk, is Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Academician of NAAS of Ukraine, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovative and International Activities of NULES of Ukraine.  Dmytro O. Melnychuk has 4 grandchildren.
